Cooperatives at Dancing Rabbit

Cooperatives are an important aspect of Dancing Rabbit's sustainable vision. Co-ops allow for more efficient utilization of resources, whether that be food, cars or whatever. Sharing resources also allows for greater social interaction, bringing people together who have common interests and/or needs. As Dancing Rabbit grows, other co-ops will be certainly be developed.

Food

Many people choose to eat together at Dancing Rabbit. Food co-ops and eating groups are a great way to demonstrate sustainable living and have some great dinner company!

Sunflower is an open co-op that operates out of the Common House kitchen. It feeds visitors and any one else who chooses to join. Sunflower is primarly vegan with some vegetarian/omnivore options.

Bobolink is a small food co-op of about 5 members. It also feeds interns, work exchangers, and visitors from time to time. For more information, see our Bobolink page.

Travel

The first covenant of living at Dancing Rabbit is that we do not have personal vehicles on the property. This demands some creative solutions to get off of the farm. Vehicle co-ops are on of them. A Bicycle co-op has been discussed, and may appear soon!

The Dancing Rabbit Vehicle Co-op - To travel beyond the bounds of Dancing Rabbit, all Dancing Rabbit members are currently members of the Dancing Rabbit Vehicle Co-op (DRVC). This co-op currently has 3 vehicles - 2 cars and a truck - in its fleet. For more information, see our DRVC page.

Healthcare

The Dancing Rabbit Health Care Fund is a co-op that helps members of the Rutledge tri-communities reduce their health care costs and pay for major medical expenses.

Miscellaneous

We have a number of other co-ops at DR that are organized under our Cattail Commons Co-op umbrella. These co-ops include services for showers, phone, internet, and other basic services at DR.
