Although Dancing Rabbit is still a small
community in the pioneering stage, we call ourselves an ecovillage
because our goal is to grow to be a small, locally self-reliant
town of 500 to 1000 residents, committed to radical environmental
sustainability.
We are housed in a variety of living arrangements, eat a variety
of foods, and work on varied projects. Our society is flexible enough
to include egalitarian communities, cohousing, and individual households.
We may have different approaches to some issues, but the common
desire for environmental sustainability underlies all key decisions
at Dancing Rabbit.
Although Dancing Rabbit strives for self-sufficiency and economic
independence, we do not sequester ourselves from mainstream America.
Rather, outreach and education are integral to our goals. We vigorously
promote ourselves as a viable example of sustainable living and
spread our ideas and discoveries through visitor programs, academic
and other publications, speaking engagements, and the like.

Details of our vision
-- In the years before we settled on our current land DR spent most
of our time trying to clearly articulate our collective vision
of our rural ecovillage. Here is a description of our vision
for DR, written before we bought land in 1997, but still in
many ways guiding us today. Sections include:
-
A Society of Communities
-- The Society of Communities model describes our vision of people
living in a variety of smaller communities within the town of
Dancing Rabbit.

Filters on Diversity by Tony Sirna
-- Here is an article about our thoughts on diversity at Dancing
Rabbit, written in 1996, before we moved onto our present land.
